El Despertar

The alarm has not sounded yet.I get up before the noise.I do not make coffee.I do not turn on the radio.

The cup is still in the sink.There is a dark line at the bottom.I turn on the tap.The water strikes the ceramicand stops all at once.

I tie my shoes.The left lace, more worn,breaks when I pull it.I knot it where it snapped.

The envelope lies open on the table.The folded paper is in my pocket.I do not take it out.I feel it against my legas I step down the first stair.

I open the door.The corridor is dark.The neighbour has not taken down her rubbish yet.

I walk down the stairswith a loose shoe.

El despertador aún no suena.Me levanto antes del ruido.No preparo café.No enciendo la radio.

La taza sigue en el fregadero.Tiene una línea oscura en el fondo.Abro la llave.El agua golpea la cerámicay se corta de golpe.

Me ato los zapatos.El cordón izquierdo, más gastado,se rompe al tirar.Lo anudo donde se partió.

El sobre queda abierto en la mesa.El papel doblado está en el bolsillo.No lo saco.Lo siento contra la piernacuando bajo el primer escalón.

Abro la puerta.El pasillo está oscuro.La vecina aún no baja la basura.

Bajo las escalerascon el zapato flojo.
